Title: "Southeast Asian epigraphy"

Summary
- There are features of South East Asian (and no doubt Indic, and other non-Greek and Latin) scripts and epigraphic practices that can not currently be handled by documented EpiDoc practice. Some epigraphic conventions will be different. The EpiDoc guidelines and stylesheets probably need at least to be aware of these issues for compatibility with the larger epigraphic community.
Examples
(From Doug Cooper's email summarising Christian Bauer's presentation at http://www.seaphilology.hu-berlin.de/bbaw-cil2005/epidoc_bbaw.html )
- marking lacuna for stacked characters/diacritics
- similar for multi-character entities (i.e. syllables)
- dealing with implicit vowels
- problems presented by non-linear texts, e.g. chronographs / astrographs
- dealing with word-break/ligature problems (GB note: how is this different from the ligature problem in Greek/Latin?)
- subscript dot can't be readily used, because it's part of the standard (Indic) transliteration characters (GB note: this is essentially a difference in editorial convention that requires stylesheet adaptation but no new markup rules)
